Tchaikovsky Manfred Symphony Transcription Premiere
Asiya will be giving the world premiere of her newest transcription of Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony on January 29, 2023 at the emerging classical music series Gotham Arts on Manhattan.
Rachmaninoff Cello Sonata Transcription Score Release
In celebration of Sergey Rachmaninoff's Birthday on April 1, 2022, Asiya published the score of her transcription of Rachmaninoff's Cello Sonata. It is now available to purchase here.
The world premiere recording of Poéme
Asiya's monumental Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Piano, 'Poéme', was released in March, 2022 in its world premiere recording as a part of 'Mysteries of the Macabre' album by saxophonist Thomas Giles and pianist
Liana Pailodze Harron.
The only pianist currently performing Liszt's 24 Etudes as a single program and one of few to tout a concerto list that features over 60 works, Asiya Korepanova is a pianistic powerhouse, who is also highly recognized for her work as a transcriber, composer, visual artist, and poet, reflecting her uncompromising dedication to the arts.
Asiya’s historic solo piano transcriptions of Richard Strauss’ 'Ein Heldenleben', Rachmaninoff's Cello Sonata, Mussorgsky's 'Songs and Dances of Death', and many others, have given her a place among today’s formidable transcribers.
She creates a series of multimedia projects featuring original poetry and visual art that serve as an interpretive commentary to each movement in a particular cycle of piano works. Examples include Liszt’s Transcendental Etudes, Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, Tchaikovsky’s 18 Morceaux, Op. 72, and Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition'.
Most recently, Asiya premiered her latest piano quintet work 'I marvel at the sky', commissioned by the Third Dimension Music Festival in Astoria, OR, and published the score of her Rachmaninoff Cello sonata transcription. Her Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Piano, Poéme, was released in its premiere recording, performed by Thomas Giles and Liana Pailodze Harron. Asiya eagerly anticipates the premiere of her latest transcription of the Manfred Symphony by Peter Tchaikovsky in January, 2023.
She will debut her signature #Liszt24Etudes recital program at the Merkin Concert Hall in New York on February 21, 2023.
Asiya compares the process of making a transcription to the most consuming and passionate process of taming a wild animal, and that is probably why most of her transcriptions are made of the large-scale or powerful works.
The idea behind the image is an imaginary meeting of two magical creatures representing Slavic and Western cultures - the Firebird and the Unicorn, since both cultures have a major influence on Asiya's creative process.
With over 15 completed transcriptions for piano solo in her portfolio, Asiya continues to explore different ideas, having also written transcriptions for 4 and even 6 hands.
Since 2007, Asiya has implemented a series of unique projects. She presents significant piano works or cycles by great composers together with her original commentary on each of the works through her poetry and artwork.
Tchaikovsky’s 18 Morceaux, Op. 72 and Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.
The idea culminates in multimedia performances in which Asiya projects her drawings and reads her poetry for each piece she performs within the given musical cycle. The concerts therefore become an intersection of an art exhibition, poetry reading and piano recital, and the audience is inspired to visualize their own impression from the music.
